June Freret Market
Man, today was probably the hottest it’s been all year here in New Orleans. But that didn’t stop us and 80+ other vendors from setting up and taking part in the June Freret market. We had a grand ol’ time selling some goods, and mingling with local crafters, food vendors, and visitors. Thanks to everyone who faced the heat and came out to see us. A special thanks to my mom and dad for helping us fold and tag shirts, and stitch labels.
We enjoyed seeing Lori Norvell of Material Girl NOLA today. This little lady is a crafty one to say the least. We recommend checking out her new recycled bags made from rice sacks. They’re pretty rad.
We also finally had the opportunity to meet Miss Malaprop and a few of our Twitter followers (shout out to Matt, Angie, and Nikki!) Miss Malaprop is a lil’ crafty one as well. She also helped found Craft Mafia, which is a bad-ass organization in NOLA that is celebrating it’s birthday this coming Thursday! Miss Malaprop also did a great post about us that makes us blush. Read it here.
Christy Lorio of Slow Southern Style also stopped by to say hello. We love checking in to her blog to see what’s happening around New Orleans as well as keeping up to date on southern style.
Freret Market will be closed in July and August and will start back up again in September. We hope to be able to meet lots more new people and see familiar faces when we head back in September. Wow…can you believe that’s not that far away?!
Anyways…we’ll keep you posted on new things we’re doing. And, believe us, we have lots of things up our sleeves, so be ready. As we bit you adieu, this one goes out to everyone who is or will be sporting our new design “What’s the name of your school?” : DJ Jubilee, ya heard!
What We’ve Been Up To
Well, it’s been quite some time since we’ve posted in our blog. We’ve been keeping pretty busy. Jeremy and I recently tied the metaphorical knot…and it was a dang ol’ hoot to say the least. We are quite possibly the luckiest people in the world- we have amazing family and friends, whom without them, we couldn’t do half of what we do, including throwing a DIY wedding and all of the new things we have happening with SHULTZILLA and just life in general.
I was recently selected to the New Orleans Ad Club Board of Directors. I served on the board for AAF-BR for 2 years and see the same potential in Ad Club here in New Orleans, so I’m very excited to take on the position of Membership Chair to help boost numbers that fell a bit post-Katrina. I have also begun blogging for NOLA Femmes. Check out the site when you have a moment- it’s a great group of intelligent women that I am proud to be involved with. I’m CheekyCherry504 :>
Jeremy participated in Mustache May as he does most years. And let me tell you…this ‘stache is deemed worthy of being part of 610 Stompers…and Lord knows he has amazing dance moves. What do you think of the look? We think he pulls it off well.
Post-wedding day bliss, we honeymooned in Costa Rica, which was nothing short of amazing- to say the least. We both got sunburned as we were a tad bit closer to the Equator than we are here in New Orleans. And apparently sitting under and umbrella does no good in blocking out the rays! Regardless, we climbed volcanoes, swam in creeks, drove cross country, went sailing, and ate delicious food.
Now we’re back and we’re moving full steam ahead. Tomorrow at the Freret Market, we’ll be debuting a new t-shirt design as well as a new tote bag. We also will be introducing NEW PRODUCTS tomorrow at the market, which will then be added to our site for online purchasing!
What’s So Special About New Orleans?
Pretty much every day, we tout reasons that we love living in and being from the 504. It’s always nice when we come across a blog or article written by someone who is not from here, but experiences the same thing most of us have—they experience a city that takes over your soul. We wanted to give a shout out to this Bostonian. He gets it. Enjoy!
NOLA Gift Guide
Local businesses make New Orleans unique. It’s our collective job as locals to help these stores continue to grow. The local businesses succeed, our economy succeeds- it’s simple. We started a NOLA Gift Guide that will help you complete your shopping list this holiday season. It’s a work in progress, so feel free to suggest other local businesses that should make this list because of their superb handmade skills, impeccable design, or because it’s just so bad-ass. We hope you enjoy!

Happy First Year To Us!
And what an incredible year it has been! We hope you’ve had a chance to review our 2010 Annual Report. We’re very excited to be able to present all of our financial highlights to you, our loyal customers. (It’s definitely worth a read!) Thanks for a great year filled with art markets, fashion shows, in-store appearances and just good ol’ fun. Not to mention we bought a mannequin from Gal Holiday, which is just bad-a in itself. We’re hitting the ground running with ringing in the new year on a high note (and the new year is still a month and a half away!) so if that doesn’t say we’re not forward-thinkers, I don’t know what does!
Anyway, keep your eyes open for us around New Orleans and the outlying areas as we’re ramping up for a great second year.
A warm wish for a wonderful Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Much, ‘zilla love,
Aimée & Jeremy
SHULTZILLA Free Press Awareness Week
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
SHULTZILLA Announces Free Press Awareness Week
New Orleans, Louisiana- September 22, 2010 It’s a bird?!?! It’s a plane!? No- it’s SHULTZILLA! Ya heard?!
Local tshirt designers Aimée Shultz and Jeremy Miller have announced the beginning of “SHULTZILLA Free Press Awareness Week”. Through SHULTZILLA, their tshirt company, these hip designers put out original, creative, clever work; and therefore, they have been left out of the loop with everyone suing everyone else over the use of the term “WhoDat”.
They figure with all of this hoopla going on, they want in on some of the action. Hence, “SHULTZILLA Free Press Awareness Week!”
SHULTZILLA will gladly take any free press offered by any local, national, or international media. The two creatives state that they are in agreement that whomever would like to use the term “WhoDat” should be able to. However, they feel that vendors should get more creative with their products instead of jumping on the “WhoDat” bandwagon to make a quick buck. Shultz stated, “These people pass it off as if they’re fighting for my and your right to say ‘WhoDat,’ but what they’re really fighting for is their right to sell someone else’s idea. This goes for the NFL, Texas songwriters and local vendors alike.”
Miller added, “That’s why we started our initiative to request free press. We figure it will get everyone’s mind off the whole ‘WhoDat’ situation for a bit if the focus is solely on us.”
To kick off the beginning of “SHULTZILLA Free Press Awareness Week”, free ribbons will be given away at Magazine Street’s “The Occasional Wife,” which carries SHULTZILLA products. There really is no specific reason they picked ribbons other than the fact that this is a really important initiative…you know, like raising awareness and funds for Breast Cancer, supporting our troops over seas and their families, and more recently, the Black and Gold Merchants Association. But that’s not all the tricks these two crazy kids have up their sleeves. That’s right. There’s more. Don’t worry if you can’t head over to “The Occasional Wife” to get yourself a ribbon. You can add your very own “SHULTZILLA Free Press Awareness Week” twibbon to your Twitter and Facebook icons.
Free Press Awareness Week runs from September 27-October 1, 2010.
Get your “SHULTZILLA Free Press Awareness Week” blue and orange twibbon here.
Where else can SHULTZILLA be sighted?
Like them.
Follow them.
Buy from them.
[For those of you that don't know SHULTZILLA personally- no, they do not think their initiative is anywhere near the same level of Breast Cancer awareness and support for troops. They just like to point out the irony of these types of initiatives compared to the latter listed (Black and Gold Merchants Association). In fact, there really are no ribbons at The Occasional Wife. Does that ruin SHULTZILLA's chance of getting free press? This release is really just to raise awareness that we do not support businesses, local or otherwise, that can't support original ideas.]
